2nd October

presents

Snake Davies

If there's one thing more credibility-sapping than honking one's instrument for the Eurythmics, it's doing so for M People. Chris Snake Davis, bless him, has done both. However, to paraphrase a saying, you don't shoot the saxophonist, and if backing Heather Small up with some tasteful parping has put the bread on his table, then good for him.

The sax-happy waters of AOR, MOR and 1980s pop (hello, Paul Young) may often have been Davis's playground, but he's also embellished records by Primal Scream, Motörhead and Soul II Soul, and as resident saxophonist on Tonight With Jonathan Ross, he's backed the not inconsiderable likes of James Brown.

The session man's life is not a romantic one, but it sounds like fun, and unsurprisingly for a man whose multi-genre expertise has kept him in demand for two decades, Davis has made some solid records of his own.

Nottingham Organ Society presents

Byron Jones

An accomplished organist, Byron has also played most of the major theatre pipe organs in Great Britain, namely, Comptons, Christies and WurliTzers including the famous Blackpool Tower WurliTzer. He is a much-sought-after concert performer, and travels all over the country, giving concerts on many of the loved and cherished Theatre Cinema Organs that have been preserved and held in affection. He also cannot resist the temptation to sample all kinds of Church Organs when he has the opportunity. There are hundreds of Organ Societies around the country today having guest organists in concert, and Byron is among the tops, being sought after for these events, even as far as Spain and Jersey.

In recent years Byron has achieved an increasing international success, with many new friends in Canada and the USA who look forward to seeing him during his visits there. Never happier than when seated at the console of some of the world's finest organs, Byron's magic touch is appreciated all around the world.

Billy Roberts is one of the UK’s leading Stage Psychics, and is a published author with fourteen books to his credit. He has been psychic since he was a child, and although he began his early life as a professional musician touring Europe with such names as Chuck Berry, The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, The moody Blues, Small Faces, The Kinks, to mention but a few, he only became a professional medium when he was 34.

Billy has always been regarded as an extremely radical medium whose work in the early days was greatly opposed by the different fractions of the Spiritualist movement. He has always stood by his beliefs, and although he has extremely strong views about the paranormal and the occult, his wealth of knowledge does make him stand out from his peers.

For the past two years, Billy and Ciaran O’Keeffe, parapsychologist off the television programme, MOST HAUNTED, have been jointly working on a book entitled THE GREAT PARANORMAL CLASH, to be published in July 2008 by Apex Publications. Although the two are good friends, and come from very different backgrounds, their combined efforts have culminated into an excellent read for all those interested in the paranormal.

Film

An affair to remember

A relentlessly heart-tugging tale of two soulmates whose love even great tragedy cannot tear asunder, An Affair to Remember tosses and turns the emotions but never descends into schmaltz; it stays compelling – partly down to its smart, surprisingly sassy script, which often holds back when it could go for the cheap weep, but also because it is brought to us by two of the classiest acts in Hollywood history: Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

Dr David Mortimer is preparing to address a conference of neuro-surgeons with a speech certain to guarantee him a knighthood. In rushes a visitor. A nurse he had a fling with 18 years ago. Mortimer learns that as a result of their tryst she bore him a son. A son who is at this moment rampaging round the hospital searching for his wayward father! Attempting to cover up such a catastrophe on this important day sets the fibs fizzing. “If you’re going to tell a lie, tell a whopper,” yells Dr Mortimer as events begin to spin deliriously out of control. He enlists the help of hospital staff. In the ensuing chaos his best friend is passed off as the boy’s father! Fierce matron falls off the window ledge with a hypodermic needle in her rump! And several doctors end up in nurses’ uniform! There are more twists and turns in this outrageously funny farce than the Monaco Grand Prix. An evening of delicious and uproarious fun for all. By arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.

Nottingham Organ Society presents

Chiho Sunamoto

Chiho Sunamoto, who has recently been described as the Vanessa May of the organ and keyboard world, brings a breath of fresh air onto the keyboard scene. Originally from Matsuyama, in the South of Japan, Chiho began by learning the piano at the age of 3, from there progressing at the age of 9 to the local Yamaha Music School to learn the art of organ playing.

During Chiho's time at St. Katerina University, where she studied opera singing, piano and classical organ, she became one of the youngest people to pass Yamaha's top exam, Grade 3 Music Diploma.

Twice Chiho was a finalist in the Yamaha Electone (organ) Festival, which led to offers of work from Yamaha as an overseas demonstrator and contracts with two of Japan's major TV stations where she composed and performed for a variety of shows.
