Welcome to MUSICALIVE the first musicworks Festival of Music Theatre. We hope that this is the first of many such events and that it will become a regular highlight of the Nottingham music scene.

We have a very exciting and talented line up of performers with a diverse selection of events. We are particularly happy to welcome not only local talents but  artists who have come from other parts of the country – indeed the world – which now make our festival truly “international”.

We have been delighted with the enthusiastic response we have had from all of the artists involved. We have even had people approaching us asking to be included – always a good sign!

After the stunning success of Seussical the Musical” (see picture below) we saw the festival as a logical opportunity to continue to stamp our mark on the local scene by drawing together a varied and challenging programme aimed at all ages. This is very much what we see as the ethos of musicworks - making high quality music accessible to the whole community, encouraging           participation and making the most of every opportunity.

We hope you will enjoy the events you come to see at MUSICALIVE and that you will come back to see our future productions. You can keep in touch via our website musicworksuk.net or you can have more direct involvement by becoming a friend of this exciting new charity, taking an active part in ensuring the success of what we know will add so much to the quality of music in Nottingham.

Ever wondered what would happen if you put five musical theatre performers and a pianist on a stage with nothing but an audience? So did we! Join us when we find out! No script, no music, no safety net … never to be        repeated…Probably…

The first half of the show will be a series of improvised games (in the style of “Whose Line is it Anyway?”, but with music). At the end of the first half we will take suggestions from the audience for settings, characters and plots. These will form the basis for the improvised musical in the second half… Probably…

Hosted by: Dan Armstrong

Pianist: Jon Orton

Performed by: Phil Birkett, Jonny Fines, Cathy Miller and Gareth Wynne

Please note that as this is an improvised event the use of strong language is likely...Probably...

Blues in the Night

DATE:             Thursday 12th, Friday 13th June

TIME:                         8pm

PRICE:           £10, £8 concessions

A tremendous West End success, this dynamic compilation of 26 hot and torchy blues songs, frames and comments on three women's relationships with one snake of a guy. With no spoken text, the interweaving stories are defined through music alone - and what music! Ranging from Bessie Smith through Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer /  Harold Arlen, Alberta Hunter, Jimmy Cox, Ida Cox and more, the evening's music is raunchily forthright,           infectiously good-humoured and always classically blues. Songs include "When A Woman Loves A Man", "Wasted Life Blues" and the title song.

Blues in the Night is sassy, sensual, delicious, moody, and an infectious piece of musical theatre.
